Welcome to the Salem New Age Center’s monthly e-mail newsletter. Please assist our efforts by sharing this newsletter in e-mail or print with your friends. This is our twelfth issue, and thus marks our first year anniversary for these newsletters. It’s been a great year, with very positive feedback. Thanks to all who have contributed their thoughts for these newsletters, and those who have found the information within worthwhile enough to share with others. We hope to be able to write and publish this newsletter for many years to come.

NEW AGE BOOKS AND READING GROUPS by Andy Lutts
New age books are a great way to share and learn about various new age concepts. Prior to the Internet, books were one of the few ways to effectively share metaphysical information on a large scale with others. It is still an incredibly effective medium.
Some time ago we started a new age book group. The group meets once a month to discuss a book the group has read in advance. It’s been a very rewarding undertaking. Everyone in the group really enjoys getting together and discussing various metaphysical and spiritual concepts. The books are simply the tools to get a discussion going. By the end of the evening, we’ve usually strayed far and wide off the book topic.
If you are so inclined to start your own metaphysical book discussion group, I highly recommend it. It is very important at this time to network with others doing similar work, and a book discussion group can be just the thing to get it started.

EVACUATION VERSUS ASCENSION by Andy Lutts
Many times we hear about space ships circling the Earth, ready to evacuate mankind at the final moment. We also hear from people asking when this will happen. It seems that there is a good number of people ready to evacuate the planet, leave Earth and the third dimension, off to a better place and another world.
You did not come to Earth to leave it. There is a reason you and I are here. Yes, there are ships. Some of them are very, very big. Yes they are here to help us. But they do not have all the answers to all man’s problems.
Ascension is the preferred mode of evolution, so to speak. We incarnated here on Earth at a glorious time. We came here to raise the vibration of the Earth from third dimension on up, to bring Earth to LIGHT. In doing so, we will become light, in light bodies, fully conscious, in an ascended state. This is a goal for many of us. This path is more difficult than catching a ride with the next mother ship, but it is far more rewarding.
If evacuation is necessary, then I welcome it. Yet ascension is a goal that I believe many have come to Earth to experience. In fact, this is why there is so much interest in our planet at this time by people from other worlds. They want to witness a glorious event - planet EARTH going to LIGHT!
There are those who speak of earth changes, wars, poverty, and more. If mankind needs to manifest these kind of negative polarities in order to see the light, so be it. It is one way for people to increase their awareness. From the depths of darkness, the light looks brighter and whiter. However, any darkness will not last long. The light will prevail. And it will come, sooner or later, sparkling and bright. Just remember what it is we all came here to do. This is most important at this time.
Exciting things are in store for our world, some of which we can’t even imagine right now. It is surely something that should not be missed. Together, we will create our future here on Earth, a future to share.

At a recent new age / metaphysical trade show we attended recently, it struck us how many different tools for transformation there were. Every time we go to a show like this we are amazed and delighted at the diversity of products and services available.
For example, we saw books (our favorite, obviously), audio tapes, video tapes, pyramids, crystals, workshops, classes, group mediations, retreats, healing, jewelry, gemstones, elixirs, bodywork services, bodywork tables, aura cameras, psychic readings, tarot readings, astrology readings, past life regressions, natural food, food supplements, breathwork, and much, much more.
If I had a spare year to try out all these products and services, I would be truly transformed a year from now, wouldn’t I?
After walking around the trade show for the better part of the day, with my feet starting to get tired, my positive outlook started to change. I became skeptical. Who were all these people walking around me? Why were they here? Why all these products and services? Is everyone just looking for a magic potion?
I concluded that far too many people are looking for something on the outside that can best be found from within themselves. I must confess that I am searching for the magic potion too. I would love to find an all-knowing psychic, a book with all the answers, a healer with miraculous gifts, a workshop that shows me how to love unconditionally.
But the whole problem with this scenario is that I am looking outside of myself for the answers, when all the true answers lie within. Yes, there are many transformational tools that can and do help a great deal. They can be a lot of fun. They are often part of the discovery process. And usually they provide real help for transformation. But the real work and answers must come from within.
The true spiritual path does not have to be a difficult one. It does not have to involve painful sacrifice, hours of service, and endless meditation. It can be full of amazement, joy, discovery, and wonderment.
But the spiritual path does come from within, from self discovery, and self-awareness, from the God-self. All too often this comes from increased awareness from time spent in meditation.
In the words of Yogananda:
"Meditation, or consciousness focused upon itself, is the ultimate revealer of who you really are, and what you truly are. You can discover an inner guidance within yourself, and that inner guidance will guide you to the destination you need to go. You have already been guided to many things which are opening you to be aware, but the greatest tool for self knowledge is meditation."

It has come to our attention that many people are looking for good suggestions, ideas, techniques and guidance concerning meditation. Therefore, in the next couple of months, we will be launching a new, free Meditation Workshop by e-mail.
We will be sending weekly guidance, assistance and techniques. We will announce in the November or December newsletter when this will begin. I anticipate the e-mail workshop will run for about 6 - 8 weeks. Please wait until the official launch to sign up. There will be no limit to the number of participants, all are welcome to try it.
